Background and Purpose: Tetracycline represents the most prevalent antibiotic group in production and utilization and is extensively employed for the prophylaxis and treatment of infectious diseases in both human and veterinary medicine. The primary objective of this investigation was to assess the efficacy of electro-activated persulfate (EC/PS/HR) for eliminating tetracycline from aqueous solutions.Materials and Methods: This study was conducted in a batch mode utilizing an electro-activated persulfate (EC/PS/HR) system. All experiments were carried out under constant temperature conditions. Response surface methodology (RSM) in conjunction with a central composite design (CCD) was employed to optimize the variables associated with the electro-activated persulfate and hydrogen peroxide process, including pH, current density, and the persulfate/hydrogen peroxide molar ratio, with the aim of tetracycline removal. Data analysis in this study was performed using Data Designer 8.0.6 software.Results: The results of this study revealed the use of a quadratic model to predict the impact of independent variables on the efficiency of tetracycline removal in the process. The exceedingly low (p <0.0001) and the high correlation coefficient (R2) of the obtained model signify a robust correlation between experimental and predicted data. The optimal conditions for achieving maximum efficiency in the degradation of tetracycline through electro-activated persulfate were determined to be a pH of 5.6, a persulfate/hydrogen peroxide molar ratio of 1.1, and a current density of 31 mA. Under these conditions, tetracycline degradation reached approximately 95.2%.Conclusion: Based on the findings of this investigation, it can be deduced that the advanced oxidation process relying on electro-activated persulfate (EC/PS/HR) is capable of eliminating contaminants in aqueous environments, influenced by various factors such as hydrogen peroxide dosage, catalyst concentration (persulfate), and pH. The study highlights the capability of the electro-activated persulfate (EC/PS/HR) hybrid process to decompose recalcitrant pollutants like tetracycline from aqueous environments. Overall, the electro-activated persulfate process demonstrates promise for the degradation of tetracycline in aqueous solutions.

Background and Aims: There are various methods for the disinfection of infectious wastes which are of great importance due to their potential health and environmental risks and there are different insights about their management in Iran. Hence, the aim of this study was to survey the various aspects of disinfection methods of infectious waste on the basis of environmental health specialist insights. Material and Methods: For performing this study, a questionnaire was prepared and the opinions of the specialists were gathered about five disinfection and disposal methods of infectious wastes, and finally the data were analyzed. Moreover, the preferences of the specialists for selecting each method were also asked based on 9 various aspects. Results: It was found that health issues received the highest priority (with 26% of desirability) from the specialists in selecting the method, while the lowest priority was assigned for financial issues (with 8% of desirability) and political acceptability (with 6% of desirability). Environmental health specialists believed that autoclaving and waste incinerating with 77.8% and 44.1% of desirability, respectively, are the most favorable and undesirable methods for disinfecting the infectious wastes. The results showed that the disinfection is a top priority for the specialists, and, with respect to current situation, they did not make any significant difference between on-site and ex-situ disinfecting methods, which is reflected in the scores of 3.65 and 3.72 for these two scenarios. Conclusion: Overall, health aspects have the most important priority in the management of infectious wastes. Therefore, autoclaving and microwaving are the most appropriate methods for the disinfection of such wastes. Landfilling and incineration were not suggested for the disposal or treatment of infectious wastes.

Background and objective: Air pollution is one of the major factors threatening human health and our environment. This study aimed at the comparative investigation of Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) and its application in the city of Tehran since 2007 to 2014. Materials & Methods: This Study was a descriptive–analytic one. First, the required data were taken from Department of Environment and the Air Quality Control Company. The data were validated by the World Health Organization criteria .The air quality health index was measured based on the air quality standard tables and classified into low, medium, high and very high degrees. Results: The results show that according to air quality health index, the level of air pollution in Tehran has been undesirable since 2007 to 2014 and in 95%,92%,73%,65%,57%,65%,52%,46% of days Air quality has exceeded the standard level respectively .So, the level of risk has been high and sometimes very high. Conclusion:As a result, due to high level of air pollution and its dangerous effects, proper planning and management should be considered in environmental health sectors to control and reduce air pollution.
